Ginny Christensen is the force behind Strategy for Growth, LLC, a consulting firm that "provides strategic planning, board development, executive coaching, and leadership team development for independent schools and nonprofits." The site is fairly simple. It's built in WordPress and has rudimentary e-commerce with a Paypal option for purchasing books. Visit Ginny Christensen.

The mission of the Salem County Special Services School District, a regional educational service agency, is to provide high quality, cost-effective programs and services to the schools and districts of Salem and Cumberland Counties, New Jersey. This site built with what are for me fairly generic tools: Movable Type as CMS, with Flickr intergration. The design style sheet was built from scratch using CSS. View site.

Journalist Susan DeMark looks for the stories behind the architecture, buildings, history, and nature of NYC and beyond. She and a graphic designer put together the look of the site and I performed the CSS magic to translate their vision into a WordPress blog. Visit the site.

These "public conversations with today's boldest voices" are the brainchild of activist journalist Anne-christine d'Adesky. She's traveling the world interviewing policy makers and on-the-ground organizers on issues of global health and AIDS. The site uses Google Video and Movable Type to create an online video magazine. It was a bit of a rush but it looks great and I'm sure Issue #2 will look even better. The interviews are what make the site, of course! One element of a general social media consultancy project I've undertaken with Philadelphia's William Penn Charter school is a dynamic media page. They had collected a large number of photos, movies and podcast interviews, but the media page on their site was static and without pictures. I worked with them to come up with media policies and then built a media site that automatically displays the latest Flickr sets and Youtube videos, all laid out attractively with CSS. The Flickr part was complicated by the fact that Flickr doesn't produce feeds of sets and this required access to it's API and fairly extensive Yahoo Pipes manipulation. The original podcasts were just uploaded MP3 files and I worked to collect them together via Odeo (hosting) and Feedburner (feed publishing), which then provides RSS and iTunes support. The actual content for the page is collected together on the Martinkelley.com server and embedded into the Penn Charter media pages via javascript. A site put together by two consultants to the natural food industry. All pages were editable by a Movable-Type powered content management system. A notable feature was a e-commerce subscription function with private user log-in pages. This consultancy business was closed in May 2008 and the site was taken down.

On a Friday my wife Julie and older son attended a rally to save a favorite church threatened with closure and by Sunday we launched Savestmarys.net. It was a weekend where I was already swamped with deadlines, so it's standard Movable Type but with all the tricks of mashed-up Web 2.0 sites to let Julie pour content in: Flickr, Slidoo, Slideshow Generator -- and soon Youtube. This is a fairly standard Movable Type blog except that the client wanted two separate blogs: one meant for daily posts and the other for more weekly posts (it's all set up in MT via categories). This also shows the use of Slidoo for a photo banner head. The pictures are all pulled from a particular set of her Flickr account. Visit site.

A multimedia website displaying the very colorful aquarium out near Norristown Pennsylvania. The Flickr photos are cached and display with a Slimbox clone when clicked. Movies are included both as optimized-for-download WMV files and on a independent Youtube account. View Site.

Blog by an American couple living in Vietnam and advocating for greater motorbike safety. The technical aspects are pretty straight-forward but the neat part about it was watching the client learn about blogging and online photo sharing as we worked on the site: I introduced her to Flicrk, Picasa and Gmail! Vietnamese restaurateur and surf guru Tam shares photos and stories from one of Southeast Asia's best surfing towns. Hands down this is the most handsome photo site in my portfolio! Visit Site.

An short-lived international coalition that barely survived to site launch, the project was interesting because of its requirement that its mission statement be displayed in half a dozen languages, include left-to-right set Hebrew and Arabic and Nepalese! 

Professional journalist James Maguire came to me with an existing site built in Movable Type. I'll redesigned the navigation, creating customized sidebars that changed according to the category. Website for Peter Blood & Annie Patterson, musicians most well known for their insanely-popular songbook Rise Up Singing. They sell books and tapes on the site (e-commerce handled ably and simply by Paypal) and they also have lots of high-quality content including a lot of hard-to-find Pete Seeger CDs. Movable Type is used as a content management system (CMS).
